Foolproof tips for applying false lashes like a Professional
As a Professional Makeup Artist who has seen and done thousands of transformations and make-overs, I fully value the incredible power of false lashes. They drastically open up your eyes and provide you with an additional boost of confidence. Falsies can completely tie your makeup look together and give it that final wow factor, but if the wrong falsies are used, it can be an absolute nightmare for your finished look. None of us want that! . So in this short blog, I want to pack a punch and give you the most value for your time. Let’s look at how to choose the perfect lashes and then apply them like a pro…
Choose the Right Lash Style

If you’re new to falsies, I understand why it can be difficult choosing. There are so many different styles to choose from. And I can assure you, that just like makeup formulas, not all lashes are created equal. Not only are there super cheap products out in the marketplace comprised of cheap and unsafe materials, but you also have to take into consideration your eye shape and the style of lash you are going to wear.
- Smaller Eyes: Go for a more natural, tapered lash to give your eyes a subtle enhancement. Like these here -> Tread Beauty’s Posh Half Lash
- Larger Eyes: Full volume lashes that have a touch of boldness can elevate your look in a way that does not overpower it altogether. Check out The Classy Full Lash
- Everyday Glam: Half lashes which have shorter bands, work perfectly to give an added lift without looking overdone. Take a look at some unforgettable styles here -> Half Lashes by Tread Beauty
Trim to Fit
The next step is making sure we measure the lashes to fit our eyes and trim them to a comfortable length. Before applying your falsies, make sure they actually fit your natural lash line. If the strip is too long, trim a little bit at a time from the outer edge until you land on a length that looks and feels perfect for you eyes. This simple step is crucial for ensuring a comfortable wear and will help you avoid lashes that look way too big.
Apply Lash Glue Like a Pro
The adhesive can make all the difference. The first thing you want to do is pick a quality, safe adhesive that will actually give you an all day hold. My go-to is actually my own formula. It is a Latex Free Clear Adhesive designed to last the entire day. After shaking the formulas for a few seconds, apply a thin, even layer of glue along the lash band using the lash brush. And be sure to hit the corners. Next, we wait anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes to allow the glue to get tacky.
Quick Tip: Read this resource on why you want to avoid Latex in your adhesive.
Nail the Placement
Next, we want to get the placement just right. Some choose to use their fingers. Personally, I think it’s extremely difficult to do so – I opt for my thin, yet durable Precision Lash Applicator. Opening your eyes wide and using a mirror, you want to gently place the false lashes directly on your natural lash line. Once you’ve done so, begin securing the lash to your natural lash line by starting with the middle of the strip. Then we want to press the outer and inner corners down to ensure a secure hold.
Blend with Mascara
The devil is the details. So once your lashes are secured, gently blend them with your natural lashes using a thin coat of your favorite mascara. This creates a cohesive, natural look and will ensure your lashes stay in place all day long. My absolute favorite is Bellame’s formulas which you can shop here at my boutique -> learn more
Perfect the Finish Like a Pro MUA
Now… here’s a little tip to make you feel like a pro, you can line your lash line with eyeliner to hide the false lash band altogether. Doing this will make the

falsies look like they’re naturally yours! My go-to just so happens to be Tread Beauty’s 2-in-1 Premium Black Eyeliner Adhesive. It’s literally a lash glue and black eyeliner pen all in one. Talk about making your application process quick and easy!
