How to Achieve a Glowing Complexion

Finding the perfect skincare routine for oily or even combination skin can feel exhausting. One minute, your face is fresh and matte, and the next, you’re battling ultra shine and breakouts. I’ve been there too my friend. And having worked with thousands of clients over the years as well as my own finicky skin, I know the struggle of trying to balance hydration while keeping the oily, greasy skin at bay. But the good news is you’ve come to the write place! With the right formulas, ingredients and approach, you will achieve that healthy and glowing complexion you’re eager to have.

Why Does Oily Skin Require a Special Approach?

Overly oily skin produces what is known as excess sebum. This pesky little guy leads to clogged pores, blackheads, and even our dreaded nemesis – acne. But here’s the kicker, completely eliminating oil from your skin will makes things much worse. When your skin becomes too dry, it kicks oil production into overdrive to compensate. The goal is always to select the perfect formulas so that you maintain balance. You want formulations that will do their job of regulating oil without drying out your skin.

Step-by-Step Skincare Routine for Oily Skin

  1. Gentle Cleanser Begin with a sulfate-free, gentle cleanser that removes excess oil without stripping or drying out your skin. My absolute tried and true is Bellame’s Hydrating Cleanser for a fresh start to your morning and a relaxing finish to the night.
  2. Toning with Purpose Apply a toner that balances your skin’s pH and helps with excess oil. Ingredients such as witch hazel are perfect for oily skin. I use Bellame’s Charcoal 3-in-1 Toner
  3. Lightweight Serum Try to find a serum that contains Hyaluronic acid and Glycerin because they give your skin lots of hydration. You might think oily skin doesn’t need moisture, but trust me, it does! Bellame’s Hydrating Serum is perfect for this step. If you want to learn more about HA and Glycerin check out my ingredient breakdown here.
  4. Oil-Free Moisturizer Choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer such as Bellame’s Indulgence Restorative Moisturizer to hydrate without clogging pores.
  5. SPF is Non-Negotiable Protect your skin from those harmful UV rays with a mineral-based, mattifying formula to keep shine under control. I use Bellame’s of course which you can find here too!

Other Tips for Managing Oily Skin

  • Blotting Papers are a lifesaver for mid-day shine.
  • Exfoliate Weekly with a gentle chemical exfoliant. This will drastically help to prevent clogged pores.
  • Clay Masks are great for reducing oil and drawing out impurities.
